Solar Panels for Schools in Ireland
Electricity costs are rising and school budgets are feeling it. Resolute Group installs fully funded solar PV systems for primary, post-primary and special schools across Ireland under the Solar for Schools Programme. We handle everything from site assessment and quotation to funding paperwork and installation.

Government-Backed Solar for
Every School
The Solar for Schools Programme is funded by the Government’s Climate Action Fund and run by the Department of Education with SEAI support. Eligible schools receive up to 6 kWp of roof-mounted solar PV, a monitoring system with display screen, and grid connection at no cost, installed by a contractor on the SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen register, which is exactly where Resolute sits. We manage the full application on your behalf.
Solar for Schools Programme
Up to 6 kWp of roof-mounted panels (around 14 panels), a monitoring system with display screen and grid connection, at zero cost to eligible primary, post-primary and special schools.
SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen
Schools with larger buildings or higher energy demand may be able to access additional support through the SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant. Eligibility depends on the site and any prior funding, and we confirm it during your assessment.
The School Day Maps Perfectly Onto Solar Generation
Schools run during the hours when solar panels generate the most energy. Between 9am and 4pm, most of the electricity your system produces is used on-site to power classrooms, IT equipment, lighting and heating. The real advantage comes when the building is empty: weekends, mid-term breaks and the full summer holidays. Your panels keep generating, and that energy flows back to the grid, earning the school income.
Lower Electricity Bills
Your school generates its own power during peak teaching hours, reducing what you draw from the grid. The Department of Education estimates a 6 kW system saves a school in the region of €1,200 to €1,600 per year, including export credit.
Weekend and Holiday Income
When the building is closed, your panels keep working. Every kilowatt-hour exported earns the school credit. Few building types combine high daytime use with months of unoccupied export time the way a school does.
Live Energy Monitoring
Students and staff track the school's generation in real time on the included display screen. The monitoring system turns your roof into a working lesson in renewable energy for the whole school community.
Stronger Carbon Reporting
A solar PV system reduces your school's carbon footprint from day one, supporting the sector's Climate Action Plan targets and strengthening Green Flag submissions.
Bifacial Panels Built for School Buildings
Resolute installs bifacial (glass-on-glass) panels exclusively, sourced from AE Solar and Longi. They generate from both faces, capturing light reflected from roof surfaces and surrounding hard standing, for a higher annual yield per kWp than conventional single-face panels.
Bifacial construction also carries a superior fire-performance rating compared with standard glass-and-backsheet panels. In a school environment where safety is the first consideration, that rating matters.

What Our Customers Say

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Going Solar from Resolute Engineering Group. As a small family home B&B with many hips, valleys and dormers on main roof and limited space around house required for car parking some imagination was required and Going Solar came up with a plan on a budget to deliver us up to 11,000 kw of power annually via an Anker solid inverter and 20kw of battery, while housing our 25 solar panels on 2 carport structures. On completion the carpark was returned to pre arrival condition and our carbon footprint was slashed by up to 11000 tones a year. On power cuts with change over switch the batteries can keep our home lite for days. Soon Anker app will be updated to automatically fill batteries from any source when Met Eireann issues a red weather warning. Resolute engineering kindly threw in a 21kw zappi 3 phase car charger when doing the install. We had some drama during install that many would have walked from but @ResoluteEngineering @goingsolar saw the project through delivering a finished product any team could be proud of. Yesterday SEAI inspectors called and said top class finish, nothing left out, an install that makes their job easy Thanks to every one who had a part to play in our install at Going Solar @ Resolute Engineering https://resolutegroup.ie/Posted on Google Tom DonagherTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. A big thank you to the team for a very efficient and professional install yesterday. We're delighted with our system and surprised to see that our battery charge went from 25% to 79% today with solar alone, despite the awful weather. We also really appreciate the excellent advice on the size of system to go for and the best panel arrangement; we found the consultation process to be technically far superior to the sales talk of the other solar companies we spoke to.Posted on Google Finola O'RourkeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very professional, well installed and easy to work with on grants etc. The panels are working great since installation earlier this year. I would definitely recommendPosted on Google Brian Tonge
Six Steps from Enquiry to Install
We manage the full process so your team does not have to. From first call to the 25-year maintenance contract, every step is handled by an SEAI-certified Resolute team member.
Free Assessment Call
No-obligation initial consultation to confirm your school is eligible for the Solar for Schools Programme and to schedule a site assessment.
Site Assessment
We visit your school to assess the roof structure, electrical systems and panel orientation. This tells us exactly what your building can support and what the expected output will be.
System Design
We design a solar PV system sized to your school’s energy profile. Every system is engineered for the specific building, not a standard package applied to every site.
Funding Application
We prepare the quotation and paperwork your school needs for the Department of Education’s funding approval process, so the office is not chasing applications and approvals.
Installation
We schedule installation during mid-term breaks or holidays to avoid any disruption to teaching. Our installers follow strict safety protocols for working on school grounds.
Handover & Monitoring
Once the system is live, we walk your team through the monitoring software and hand over full documentation. Your school tracks generation and export income in real time from day one.
A Real Resolute School Install
Stepaside School, Dublin
Resolute designed and installed a 31.54 kW solar PV system at Stepaside School in Dublin, sized well beyond the standard 6 kWp programme to match the school’s energy demand. Installation was scheduled around the school calendar, with all on-site work completed safely and without disruption to teaching.
What Schools Earn Back Each Year
A standard 6 kWp Solar for Schools system can save an Irish school between €1,200 and €1,600 per year, according to Department of Education figures, including both reduced electricity costs and export credit. The figures below model a larger 31.54 kW install like Stepaside School, using Irish commercial yield ranges (850 to 950 kWh per kWp per year) and the 2024 average rate of €0.23 per kWh. Actual returns vary with orientation, energy usage and tariff.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most schools do not. Since October 2022, rooftop solar on educational buildings is exempt from planning permission with no area limit, unless the school sits inside one of the 43 Solar Safeguarding Zones near airports and helipads, where a 300m² rooftop limit applies. We confirm your school’s position during the site assessment.
Very little. Solar PV panels have no moving parts and are designed to be low-maintenance. Resolute’s 25-year maintenance contract covers scheduled checks, monitoring and any issues that arise.
Yes. The Solar for Schools Programme covers up to 6 kWp, and schools with higher energy needs can explore additional support through the SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant, subject to eligibility rules around prior funding. We advise on the best route after the site assessment.
Some schools need electrical or roof upgrades before panels can be installed. We identify this during the site assessment and advise on what is needed before any work begins.
This depends on the school and the funding timeline, but most installations are completed within a few months of approval. The physical installation typically takes one to two days on-site.
No. We schedule all on-site work during mid-term breaks, holidays or weekends. If work must happen during term time, we coordinate with school management to avoid any disruption to classes.
Scheduled maintenance visits, real-time performance monitoring, inverter health checks, component replacement and full support for the entire 25-year panel guarantee period.
