Solar for Irish Farms

Solar Panels for Irish Farms

Resolute has spent 15 years engineering solar systems built for the way Irish farms actually work. We handle your TAMS 3 grant application, design around your milking, cooling and pumping loads, and back every install with a 25-year maintenance contract.

Grant Funding

Up to 60% Grant Funding

Irish farms can claim 60% of solar installation costs under the TAMS 3 Solar Capital Investment Scheme, up to a ring-fenced €90,000 investment ceiling, a maximum grant of €54,000. The scheme covers systems up to 62 kW, and you can include the energy demand of one dwelling house on the holding when sizing the array. Farms not eligible for TAMS 3 can access the SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant of up to €162,600. Resolute’s grants advisory team manages the full application, paperwork, eligibility checks and ESB connection, so you keep farming while we handle the funding.

Why Solar for Irish Farms

Solar That Matches Farm Energy Use

Dairy parlours, milking systems, refrigeration, irrigation pumps, ventilation, grain drying. Irish farms run constant, daytime-heavy electrical loads. That demand profile is almost perfectly matched to what a solar PV system generates. Self-generated power from your roof costs a fraction of grid electricity and protects you from the price volatility that has hit Irish agriculture hard since 2022.

Cut Your Biggest Energy Cost

Irish business electricity averaged €0.23 per kWh in late 2024, well above the EU average. A correctly sized farm PV system replaces the most expensive imported kWh with self-generated electricity, typically cutting daytime grid imports by 50 to 80% with a 4 to 7 year payback once grants are applied.

Power Milking, Cooling and Pumping

Dairy parlours, bulk milk tanks, irrigation pumps, slurry agitators, grain drying fans and ventilation systems all draw heavily during daylight hours. That is exactly when your panels generate. Self-consumption is what makes farm solar economics work, which is why we size systems to match your actual load profile, not your roof area.

Keep Generating After Sunset

Battery storage extends self-consumption into the evening and protects critical loads from grid outages, a real concern for dairy, poultry and any farm running cold storage. We design hybrid inverter systems matched to your usage curve and export tariff.

Pass Co-op Carbon Audits

Co-ops, processors and major retailers increasingly require carbon-reduction commitments from their supplier farms. A documented PV system with monitoring data is the cleanest way to evidence on-farm emissions reduction in supplier audits and Origin Green submissions.

The Bifacial Difference

Bifacial Panels Built for Farm Roofs

Resolute installs bifacial (glass-on-glass) panels exclusively. They generate from both faces, capturing reflected light from sheds, slurry tanks and ground surfaces, for a higher annual yield per kWp than conventional panels. For farm buildings storing fuel, fertiliser, machinery or feed, bifacial panels carry a superior fire-performance rating compared with standard glass-and-backsheet construction. That matters when your insurer asks what is on the roof of a building full of high-value stock.

Our Process

Six Steps from Enquiry to Install

From first call to the 25-year maintenance contract, every step is handled by an SEAI-certified Resolute team member.

Step 01

Free Assessment

No-obligation consultation built around your farm’s energy use, building stock and grant eligibility. Delivered within five business days of enquiry.

Step 02

Site Analysis

Physical roof survey, structural assessment, shading analysis and orientation optimisation. We identify the highest-yield surfaces on your buildings.

Step 03

Design and Engineering

Custom CAD drawings, energy yield modelling and component specification. Every system is engineered for your specific load profile, not pulled from a catalogue.

Step 04

Grant Application

We manage your TAMS 3 or SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen application end-to-end, including the ESB connection paperwork, and make sure approval is in place before any work begins.

Step 05

Installation and Commissioning

SEAI-certified installation to the highest industry standards, with minimal disruption to farm operations and full grid connection.

Step 06

Monitoring and Maintenance

Real-time performance dashboard, scheduled maintenance visits and lifetime support under the optional 25-year maintenance contract.

Primark Distribution Centre, Newbridge

When the existing roof structure could not take a rooftop array, Resolute designed a custom ground-mounted system on the surrounding land at the Primark Distribution Centre, overcoming structural constraints to deliver a custom solar solution. The same engineering capability applies to farm sites with unsuitable roof stock or available paddock land.

Farm Solar FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Usually no. Since October 2022, rooftop solar on agricultural buildings is exempt from planning permission with no area limit, unless the farm sits inside one of the 43 Solar Safeguarding Zones near airports and aerodromes, where a 300m² rooftop limit applies. Ground-mounted systems may need planning depending on size. We confirm your site’s position during the free survey.

TAMS 3 pays 60% of costs up to a €90,000 investment ceiling, a maximum grant of €54,000, for farmers only, on systems up to 62 kW. The SEAI NDMG pays up to €162,600 and is open to any business. We assess both and handle whichever applies to your holding.

Yes. Under the Clean Export Guarantee, supplier rates in 2026 typically range from around 15c to 25c per kWh and change regularly, so we confirm current rates at design stage. We design for self-consumption first, since every self-consumed kWh displaces grid electricity at around 23c.

Dairy farms typically need 25 to 50 kWp. Poultry and horticulture often justify 50 kWp plus, and TAMS 3 supports systems up to 62 kW, with the option to include one dwelling house’s demand in the sizing. We size from your half-hourly electricity data, not rules of thumb.

A 30 to 50 kWp install takes 5 to 10 working days on site. We schedule around milking, parlour use and busy cycles. Most farms see zero downtime.

Yes. Reflected light from sheds and yards adds 5 to 15% yield, and the higher fire rating matters above stored fuel, feed or machinery.

Every system comes with the option of a 25-year maintenance contract covering monitoring, inverter checks and component replacement. You get a live performance dashboard on your phone.
