Figures below are modelled on Irish PV yield (850 to 950 kWh per kWp per year) and the Eurostat non-household electricity price for Ireland of €0.2552 per kWh (second half of 2025). Grant values are the 2026 SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen amounts. The SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant funds the solar panels, on a sliding scale up to a maximum of €162,600 for a 1,000 kWp system. A 30 kWp system, for example, draws €8,600. We prepare the application, wait for your letter of offer before any work starts, and file the paperwork for payment.
Yes. Through the Accelerated Capital Allowance, a business writes off 100% of qualifying equipment cost against profits in year one, instead of 12.5% a year over eight years. The equipment has to be on the SEAI Triple E register, and you claim on the net cost after the grant. Your accountant files it on your CT1 return.
Yes, and it is one of the best reasons to build one. Chargers sit under the canopy and run off the panels above. The hardware is funded separately by ZEVI, currently up to 60% of eligible installation cost, and we apply for it alongside your solar grant. The chargers also qualify for the 100% year-one write-off, which stacks with the ZEVI grant.
It comes down to your electricity use and the size of your car park. The grant covers systems from 1 kWp to 1,000 kWp, and SEAI expects the system to be sized for what you use on site rather than for export. We size yours from twelve months of your ESB Networks data at survey. Many commercial sites land between 50 and 350 kWp.
Often, yes. You can apply as the owner, or as a tenant with landlord consent. Because a carport is freestanding and never touches the roof, landlords sign off far more readily than they do for roof works. We help set out who holds the MPRN and who claims the grant and allowances before you apply.
Possibly. The 2022 regulations that made commercial rooftop solar exempt from planning apply to rooftop panels only. A carport is a freestanding structure, so it is assessed for planning on its own merits, and larger canopies often need an application. Sites near an airport or aerodrome, protected structures and conservation areas have tighter rules. We confirm your position at survey.
You appoint an SEAI-registered installer, we apply, and you wait for the letter of offer before any work begins. That offer stays valid for eight months. Your installer applies to ESB Networks to connect the system, which takes at least four weeks, and once the works are documented SEAI pays the grant within four to six weeks.
